National EMS has operated for more than 40 years in the state of Georgia, and is proud to be the first private ambulance company in the state to earn prestigious national accreditation from the Commission on the Accreditation of Ambulance Services. We have remained nationally accredited for 25 consecutive years, supported by our team of expert EMTs and paramedics.

National EMS was founded by Pat and Mary Ellen Atkins in 1976 and has been serving the citizens of Georgia with premier nonemergency and emergency 9-1-1 ambulance services in that time.

National EMS provides pre-scheduled ambulance services in a four-county area east of metro-Atlanta, Georgia. The company also is the contracted 9-1-1 emergency ambulance provider in Rockdale, Morgan, Oconee, and Athens-Clarke counties. National EMS is the preferred ambulance provider to the University of Georgia Athletic Association.

Our staff of highly trained paramedics and EMTs are equipped with the latest fleet and equipment to offer basic life support, advanced life support and critical care transport options for our customers and patients.

COMPANY HISTORY

  • 1976
    Pat and Mary Ellen Atkins found National EMS in their basement in Kennesaw, Georgia
  • 1983
    National EMS awarded contract for Rockdale County and moved headquarters to Conyers
  • 1988
    National EMS began serving Morgan County
  • 1993
    National EMS first received national accreditation from the Commission on the Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS). National is one of only eight EMS providers in the country maintaining continuous accreditation for over 25 years
  • 1996

    National EMS provided ambulance services for all events held at the Georgia International Horse Park during the Summer Olympic games held in the Atlanta area.

  • 2008
    National EMS contracted with both Athens Regional Medical Center and St. Mary’s Hospital to become the 9-1-1 ambulance provider for Athens-Clarke and Oconee counties
  • 2021
    National EMS contracts with Piedmont Hospital-Newton to provide 9-1-1 ambulance service to Newton County 
  • TODAY

    From its beginnings with one ambulance and four employees, the company has grown to a fleet of more than 30 ambulances and 200 employees.
